History of National Safety Day
The first National Safety Day was held on December 11–13, 1965, in Delhi under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was present at the event. Around this period, the Standing Labour Committee’s 24th session in February 1966 endorsed the concept of a National Safety Council. On March 4, 1966, the Indian Ministry of Labour established the National Safety Council and registered it under the Society Registration Act of 1860. The Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950 also gave the National Safety Council legal recognition.
The National Safety Day program was therefore founded and is observed annually on this day to honor the National Safety Council’s founding anniversary, which occurred on March 4, 1972.
