Oscar Winning Movies List Year Wise: Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for an award in a given year, a movie must be screened for paid attendance for at least one week in a commercial cinema in Los Angeles County from January 1 to December 31 of that year. Exceptions to this rule include foreign language films, which are sent from the country of origin and do not need to be shown in the US. Documentaries and short films have different criteria for qualification and are officially sent by their producers, while music awards require the musician to file an application form. Only members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can nominate and vote for candidates for the Oscars. The Academy is divided into different branches of film production, and the nominees in each award category are selected by the members of the relevant branch; so, authors nominate authors, directors nominate directors, and so on. The entire academy membership chooses the nominees for best picture and casts ballots to decide the victors in a majority of the categories.
Oscar Winning Movies List Year Wise: FAQs
Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough, was not only an Indian production (the UK and Indian production companies jointly produced it).
Nominees for specific categories, such as International Feature Film, Documentary, and Animated Feature, are chosen by special screening committees comprised of representatives from all branches. In most categories, the winner is chosen from among the candidates via a majority vote of all members.
While members make most nominations of the respective branch, all voting members can nominate films for best picture. Once the nominations are determined, all voting members are entitled to vote in any category.
Actors and actresses have won several Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, or Best Supporting Actress throughout the Academy Awards history. The sole restriction is that performers cannot be nominated more than once for the same performance.
Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) invites film companies from across the world to submit their finest film for the Oscar Award for Best International Feature Film.
