National Legal Service Day 2022

Every year on November 9th, National Legal Services Day is marked to honour the start of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

The Legal Services Authorities Act was passed in 1987 to establish a "statutory foundation for legal assistance programmes" in India on a routine basis.

The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, was passed on October 11, 1987, and came into effect on November 9, 1995.

This day is observed to raise awareness of the need to provide fair and appropriate legal processes for all citizens.

This day is intended to increase access to free legal services for those in the weaker sectors of society as well as to guarantee that the public is informed.

The Act also refers to the creation of Lok Adalats for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
