The Assam Special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exam is a state-level examination conducted by the Department of Elementary Education, Government of Assam. The exam is designed to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of teachers in various government schools in the state of Assam. The Assam Special TET exam is a special edition of the regular TET exam, and it is conducted to fill up the vacancies that have remained unfilled in the previous recruitment cycles. The exam pattern includes multiple-choice questions on various subjects such as language, mathematics, environmental studies, and pedagogy. The exam is conducted in offline mode, and candidates who qualify the exam are issued a TET certificate which is valid for seven years. The certificate is mandatory for candidates who wish to apply for teaching jobs in government schools in Assam.

The official notification for the 6th Schedule Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2023 has been released by the Government of Assam. The exam is for the Lower Primary and Upper Primary level for the districts of Assam falling under the 6th Schedule area. Individuals who are interested and eligible and have permanent residency in the 6th Schedule area district of Assam can appear for Paper I (Lower Primary) and Paper II (Upper Primary) of the Special 6th Schedule TET-2023. Successful candidates of the 6th Schedule TET will be eligible to participate in the recruitment process for the post of elementary teachers in schools located in the 6th Schedule area, subject to their compliance with other academic and professional qualifications as per NCTE norms.

Assam Special TET 2023 Exam Eligibility Criteria

For eligibility, candidates are required to fulfill the following requirements: they must be permanent residents of any of the 6th Schedule area districts, which include Baksa, Chirang, Dima-Hasao, Kokrajhar, Karbi-Anglong, West Karbi-Anglong, and Udalguri. In addition, the educational qualifications required for the Lower Primary and Upper Primary Assam TET exam are specified as follows.

Educational Qualification Requirement : Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)

To be eligible for the Assam TET exam, candidates must meet any of the following educational qualifications:

• Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (known by any name)
• Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
• Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
• Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (known by any name)
• Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) obtained from any NCTE recognized institution are eligible for appointment as a teacher in class I to V. However, such a person must undergo a six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by the NCTE within two years of appointment as a primary teacher.

Additionally, candidates who are pursuing a teacher education course recognized by the NCTE or the RCI and have an Admit Card for the final year examination may also apply for the TET. However, they can apply for appointment only after obtaining all the required qualifications.

Educational Qualification Requirement : Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)

Candidates who wish to appear for the TET exam must fulfill one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (known by any name)
• At least 50% marks in Graduation or Post Graduation and a B.Ed. degree
• Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
• Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed.
• Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

Please note that the minimum percentage of marks in graduation will not be applicable to those who have already taken admission to the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education or equivalent course prior to July 29, 2011.

Additionally, a candidate who is currently pursuing a teacher education course recognized by the NCTE or the RCI and holds an Admit Card for the final year examination as specified in the NCTE Guideline dated 11th February, 2011, may also apply for TET. However, such candidates can only apply for appointment as a teacher after acquiring all the necessary qualifications.
