Educational Qualification

To become a DGP, individuals must have one of the following educational credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a state, central, or designated institution.
  • Applicant with a master’s or bachelor’s degree from a private university.
  • Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an open institution are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a distance or correspondence school are encouraged to apply.
  • Individuals who have passed their MBBS final test but have not yet finished their internship.
  • Candidates who have passed the final examinations of the ICWAI (Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India), the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), and the ICSI (Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India) (Institute of Company Secretaries of India)
  • Candidates with a degree from a foreign university recognised by the Indian university association.

Age Limit

A applicant for the position of DGP should be between the ages of 21 and 32. This is the age limit for general category applicants. In contrast, the age restriction for Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) candidates is 37 years, while the age limit for OBC (Other Backward Caste) candidates is 35 years.

For some backward applicants who are physically disabled, the maximum age limit has been relaxed. All applicants must have completed their bachelor’s degree and qualified for the Union Public Service Commission’s UPSC test before becoming an IPS officer. The position of DGP is only available through promotion.

Skill Sets

According to the Indian Police Service Standards, applicants must have the following eye vision:

  • Distant Vision: For far vision, the better eye should have a vision of 6/6 or 6/9 while the poorer eye should have a vision of 6/12 or 6/9.
  • Near Vision: For the better eye’s near vision, the corrected vision should be J1**. For the poorer eye, the corrected vision should be J2**. Corrections for eyesight that are approved include spectacles, CL, and refractive surgery such as ICL, IOL, and Lasik. If the candidate has had refractive surgery, the matter is sent to a Special Board of Ophthalmologists.
  • Refractive errors are permitted: There is no such restriction on refractive errors. Candidates with Myopia more than 6.00 D (including cylindrical and spherical error) should be submitted to a special Myopia Board.
  • To be regarded medically suitable for IPS, the individual must also have excellent colour vision and binocular vision.
  • If an applicant has a squint, they are ruled unsuitable for the IPS.

DGP Chest Girth Requirement

  • Female applicants must have a chest circumference of 79 centimetres.
  • Men applicants must have a chest circumference of 84 cm.
  • Applicants should be able to increase the size of their chest by 5 cm.
