At the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, the 95th annual Academy Awards ceremony begins. Jimmy Kimmel, a comedian, is hosting the illustrious ceremony this evening celebrating the best on-screen performances of the year. This is his third time doing so.
The List Of Oscar Winners 2023 has officially wrapped up the award season. The 95th Academy Awards telecast, which took place on Sunday night after months of anticipation, chaos and pundit predictions, saw the announcement of the winners in several important categories, including the Best Picture award going to Everything Everywhere All at Once and the Best Actress award going to Michelle Yeoh, ending the long-running neck-and-neck competition between her and Cate Blanchett.
Everything Everywhere All at Once became the night’s primary winner after going from a relatively obscure speciality release through A24 to an awards season juggernaut, winning seven total Oscars, including one for Best Picture. Its seven awards are the most a Best Picture winner has received in 14 years, surpassing Slumdog Millionaire’s eight in 2008. The cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once did exceptionally well in the acting categories, with other winners including Ke Huy Quan (Supporting Actress), Jamie Lee Curtis (Best Supporting Actress), and Yeoh making history as the first Asian woman to win Best Actress (Supporting Actor).
The lone non-Everything Everywhere winner among the “big six” categories was Brendan Fraser, Yeoh’s co-star in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, who also took home the Best Actor award for his work in the film The Whale.
The German war picture All Quiet on the Western Front ended the night with four overall victories and came in second place to Everything Everywhere in terms of Oscar wins.
Other notable winners included M. M. Keeravani and Chandrabose song “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, Women Talking’s Sarah Polley for Best Written Screenplay, and Guillermo del Toro for his animated Pinocchio feature.
High-profile presenters handed out tonight’s statuettes, including Halle Berry, who made history as the Best Actress and replaced Will Smith, who was prohibited from attending this year following last year’s slap, for the Best Actress presentation. Other notable presenters included Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Mindy Kaling, Elizabeth Olsen, and a reunion of Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
