Objectives of National Apprenticeship Training Scheme

The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) has the following goals.

  • To foster skill development and bridge gaps in giving fresh graduates, diploma holders in engineering and technology, and +2 vocational passouts with skills that they did not gain throughout their college studies.
  • To assist employers in developing disciplined and regulated trained people to face future workforce terms that will assist in meeting the problems of technology extension in sectors at the competitive cutting edge in the worldwide market.
  • To provide skill training in order to generate sustainable livelihood prospects for marginalized groups and to match them with mainstream career options, with a preference given to women and people working in traditional professions.
  • To foster self-employment and job prospects for youngsters by catalyzing an innovation ecosystem that fosters, supports, and leads to the improvement of wage and self-employment options for the specific target population.

Key Features of NATs

  • Integration with other plans provides trainees with more options. – Courses approved by the State/Central Government, such as PMKVY, DDU-GKY, and so on, must be coupled with apprenticeship training. These courses will be designated as optional trades, with the relevant practical content for on-the-job training added by the appropriate course approving body.
  • Ease of administration using technology – A newly built web portal “www.apprenticeshipindia.org” will be utilized to administer the full Apprenticeship Training implementation online. It will meet the needs of all important stakeholders, including candidates, industry, DGT, RDSDEs, NSDC, SAA, SSDMs, and BTPs.
  • Participation of States/UTs – In accordance with the Apprentices Act, the respective State Governments monitor the apprenticeship training programmes in State Public Sector Undertakings and Private Sector Establishments. States play a significant role in programme implementation since they have jurisdiction over the majority of MSMEs and smaller industries. Therefore, it is crucial and a top priority to educate the states, State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs), and officers up to the District level on the goals of the reforms. The Central and State governments’ District Skilling Committees will be tasked with locating apprenticeship opportunities in their districts and ensuring that they are used effectively.
  • Promoter and Facilitators/Third Party Aggregators (TPA) – Because this scheme involves a number of different parties, the role of facilitators or Third Party Aggregators (TPAs) is crucial for mobilizing apprentices, matching their preferences with the needs of the establishments for the apprenticeship opportunities posted on the portal, and assisting the establishment in locating Basic Training Providers. TPAs are hired in accordance with the criteria established by MSDE for their selection.
