Every candidate must be intelligent for the position. They should be healthy and not have nervous instability. According to the opinion of the Recruiting Medical Officer, the candidates should not have any acquired or constitutional disability. The officer can state that the candidate is unfit for the duties, particularly in high altitude and hard areas.

General examination

All the recruits must be stripped while carrying out the medical examination with due regard to decency and privacy. Garments such as underwear are allowed when the examination is conducted involving private parts. Every body part must be examined by the officials. If the candidate does not agree, he will be rejected.

Permanent tattoos are permitted on the inner face of the forearm which is from the inside of the elbow to the wrist and backside of the hand. In case any candidate has vulgar or objectionable body tattoos then officials at the GREF centre will take the final decision if it is acceptable or not. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body will be considered unacceptable and applicants will not be able to complete further screening.

Responsibility for physical fitness

The physical fitness of the recruits will be checked by the medical board. They will finish the process with the identification of the birthmarks and by checking their physical fitness. If the candidate is found fit then the officials will enter it on the enrolment form as Fit-category GREF-I and return it back to the enrolling officer. The officer will sign the form which will be equivalent to that he has personally examined the candidate according to the guidelines provided by the concerned officials. Also, the officer will state if there are no significant marks on the candidate’s body. In case of any defects, the recruit will be informed in the handwriting of the medical examiner.

It is a document which is linked to the claims of the disability pension on soldiers discharged from the service on medical terms which are mentioned in table no 1 of GREF/MED/2A has to be completed by the medical board GREF/MED/2A.
