Finally, after a long time of waiting the women’s version of the uber-popular Indian Premier League was announced and will be organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is going to be a women’s franchise Twenty20 cricket league similar to the IPL and will be held between 4th March to 26th March 2023.

The auction for the Women’s Premier League 2023 was held on February 13th, 2023, and 5 teams participated in it. Four of the teams play in the IPL, too, while the 5th one, UP Warriorz, is owned by Capri Global.

Women’s IPL 2023 Auction: Teams in Auction

5 teams sought to participate in the tournament and thus, were called upon to the auctions for the players. The five teams are ➖

  3. Mumbai Indians
  4. Royal Challengers Bangalore
  5. UP Warriorz

The total money spent by all the teams was Rs. 59,50,00,000 (US$ 7,200,000). The auction resulted in the purchase of a total of 87 players, with 30 of them hailing from foreign nations. The highest-priced player in the auction was Smriti Mandhana, who was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a massive sum of ₹3.4 crores (US$430,000). Among the overseas players, Ashleigh Gardner from Australia was the most expensive player for Gujarat Giants, and Nat Sciver-Brunt from England was the priciest player for Mumbai Indians, with each being acquired for ₹3.2 crores (US$400,000).
