The first edition’s WPL schedule and Women’s IPL 2023 Venue List has been released by BCCI. The BCCI has opened the doors for the league at a higher level for women’s cricket, hence the competition is being marketed as Women’s IPL. The competition will start on March 4, 2023 and will take place in the Women’s IPL 2023 Venue DY Patil Stadium. The tournament’s championship game will take place on March 27, 2023. At Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium, all games will be contested.
Twenty league games featuring five teams—Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz—as well as two playoff games that will be contested over a 23-day span—will be played in the 2023 season. Smriti Mandhana, an Indian athlete, was the top purchase in the February 13 auction when she went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.40 Crore. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Team India, was traded to the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore, and all the other international and Domestic stars were selected for one of the five franchises. Ashleigh Gardner of Australia and Natalie Sciver-Brunt of England, both all-rounders, were the top purchases among the overseas players and were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for INR 3.20 Crore each. Shafali Verma, the captain of the India U-19 team and winner of the ICC U19 T20 World Cup, was the top purchase and was sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 2 Crore.
