Since 2019, the Women’s T20 Challenge has expanded to a three-team tournament, with four matches instead of one, including a new team called Velocity, in addition to the Trailblazers and Supernovas.
The three teams competed against each other in a round-robin tournament, with the top two advancing to the final. The first two tournaments took place in India, however, due to the Covid pandemic, the 2020 edition shifted to the United Arab Emirates and was held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
In the four tournaments that have been held up to this point, the Supernovas, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, have been the most successful team, having won the championship three times. The Trailblazers, led by Smriti Mandhana, have been the runners-up, claiming victory in the Women’s T20 Challenge once.
The Supernovas have been present in all three championship matches thus far, with the Trailblazers qualifying for the final twice, and Velocity, captained by Mithali Raj, making it to the finals in 2019.
In 2018, Supernovas won the first title by beating Trailblazers by a margin of 7 wickets, and the following year, they won their second title by defeating Velocity by 4 wickets.
