Why Do We Celebrate Teachers Day?
Teachers’ Day is observed in India on September 5th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a well-known scholar, Bharat Ratna recipient, first Vice-President, and second President of independent India. On September 5, 1888, he was born. He was a distinguished envoy, academician, and, above all, a great teacher in his capacity as an educationist.
Teachers, as mentors, can shape students into future leaders who shape India’s destiny. They play an important role in our lives by assisting us in achieving success in our careers and businesses. They assist us in becoming better people, better members of society, and better citizens of our country. Teacher’s Day is observed to recognise the difficulties, hardships, and unique roles that teachers play in our lives.

Teachers’ Day is observed to honour their efforts as well as to recognise their unique role in our lives. Teachers are our pillars of support, and they play an important role in guiding us throughout our academic careers. They give their all to teach us valuable life lessons and serve as role models for us. On this day we thank our teachers in particular for teaching us how to survive in such a volatile environment.
History of Teachers Day
In 1962, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was elected President of India. His friends and former students approached him and asked if they could celebrate his birthday, which is on September 5th. Dr S. Radhakrishnan stated that it would be his honour if the 5th of September were renamed Teachers’ Day. This request from India’s second President demonstrated his affection and dedication to teachers. Teachers’ Day has been observed annually on September 5th since that time. Since 1962, this day has been observed.
About Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
We Celebrate Teachers Day to honour the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan. During his lifetime He received several honours, including a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1954, and honorary membership in the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963. He was also one of the founders of Helpage India, a non-profit organisation in India that helps the elderly and underprivileged. “Teachers should be the best minds in the country,” Radhakrishnan believed.
When Radhakrishnan was elected President of India, some of his students and friends asked him if they could celebrate his birthday on September 5th. Instead of celebrating my birthday, he replied, it would be my honour if September 5th was designated as Teachers’ Day.
