The Arjuna Award is one of the most prestigious awards given to Indian athletes. It is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The award is named after Arjuna, a character from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The Arjuna Award started in 1961, since then, it has been given to many famous Indian athletes, including Sachin Tendulkar, P T Usha, Vishwanathan Anand, and Mary Kom.
The criteria for the award are that the athlete must have performed consistently well for four years at the international level, and must have shown dedication and commitment to their sport.

In Which Field Is The Arjuna Award Given?

Arjuna Award 2023 Winners List FAQs
The Arjuna Award is one of the highest civilian honours bestowed by the Government of India. It was instituted in 1961 to recognize outstanding achievements in sports. The award carries with it a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a bronze statuette of Arjuna and a scroll of honor.
Any Indian citizen who has achieved excellence in sports may be nominated for the award. The nomination must be accompanied by documentary evidence of the achievements of the nominee.
Nominees are selected by a committee consisting of representatives from various sporting bodies, including the Sports Ministry, Olympic Association, and National Sports Federations. The committee’s recommendations are then approved by a panel headed by the Prime Minister of India.
