One Nation One Entrance Exam- NEET JEE Merge

NEET JEE Merge: Under the new scheme, students would just need to sit for one entrance exam as opposed to four different ones for math, physics, chemistry, and biology. Based on the scores, the students can select the program they want to study.

The University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s regulating authority for higher education, recently revealed in an interview with The Times of India that it is working on a plan to include various admission exams in The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG). The main objective is to replace three tests that are all focused on a similar base of knowledge with a single exam. The students would have the option of admission to various fields.

In order to lessen the additional stress placed on students by completing many entrance tests, the UGC will adopt this move. A single exam might also evaluate all of their knowledge at once. Therefore, under the proposed program, candidates who are interested in enrolling in engineering and medical courses will be examined in the required disciplines, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. If a student decides they do not wish to pursue engineering or medical studies, they can enrol in extra CUET-UG courses. The “Joint Entrance Examination (Main)” for engineering, the “National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate” for medicine, and currently the “CUET-UG” are the three major entrance exams in India that are taken by almost 43 lakh aspirants.

One Nation One Entrance Exam- CUET-UG

The plan is to unify all of these entrance exams so that the students are not required to take numerous entrance exams based on the same subject matter, according to UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar. The students should just take one entrance exam but have several possibilities to apply across disciplines.

Additionally, he said, “Typically, what programmes are offered? Some kids might want to pursue careers in engineering or medicine. Many of them will enrol in general education if they don’t get into either. So, is having a single CUET for all disciplines possible? The grades in math, physics, and chemistry of students who want to pursue engineering and medical can be utilised as a ranking list. If students are not accepted into engineering or medical, they will still be able to attend other programmes through CUET using the same grades in math, physics, chemistry, biology, and other subjects. In these four topics, students can try for various opportunities by writing just once.

The entrance exam will be administered twice a year. “The first one can happen after Board examinations,” Kumar continued. “And another one in December.”

When referring to the pen-and-paper NEET-UG, Kumar said “The future is computer-based multi-choice question-type tests because OMR-based tests still have certain issues in terms of the correctness of the evaluation.”

Advantages and Disadvantages of One Nation One Entrance Exam

Disadvantages

  • The exam papers for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), and other competitive exams varied significantly. When compared to JEE candidates, NEET students, who have a math background, are not anticipated to be as skilled in Physics. Only a few students will benefit unfairly from this.
  • It is anticipated that 45–50 lakh students will sit for these exams. Conducting these tests all at once across the nation would turn into a complete nightmare.
  • Due to the intense rivalry for this common exam, students may choose private universities as a backup alternative, some of which may demand extremely high admittance fees. Parents and students may suffer as a result of this.

Advantages

  • This will significantly ease the difficulty for applicants who invest a great deal of money, and effort into studying for and showing up for these exams each year.
  • There would be multiple languages for the CET. This would make it easier for citizens from various parts of the nation to take the exam. It makes selection equally likely for everyone.
