World Polio Day Speech: Every year on October 24, people mark World Polio Day. This day honours collective efforts to eradicate polio globally as well as the selfless sacrifices made by individuals fighting on the front lines of the campaign to do so. The ease with which the poliovirus spreads makes polio infectious. The virus can damage the brain regions that control respiration, which can cause death, despite the fact that it is now extremely rare because to contemporary therapies. Polio can only be prevented through vaccination because there is no proven treatment for it.
World Polio Day is marked to raise awareness about polio vaccination and eradication. Rotary International founded World Polio Day over a decade ago to remember the birth of Jonas Salk, who headed the first team to discover a vaccine against poliomyelitis.

10 Lines on World Polio Day 2022
The 10 lines on World Polio Day are provided here for children to read and understand better about this day
- Every year on October 24th, World Polio Day is honoured. This day honours the birth of Jonas Salk, who was the team leader for the initial effort to create the illness vaccine.
- The poliovirus is the infectious agent that causes the debilitating and potentially fatal disease known as polio. This virus develops in the intestine, where it can then enter the neurological system and cause paralysis.
- It is a deadly disease that is highly contagious and primarily affects children under the age of five.
- The only method of preventing polio in children and halting its spread is immunization because there is no known cure. A vaccine, however, makes it simple to avoid catching polio.
- World Polio Day is an international initiative to end polio.
- More than 16 million lives have been saved from poliomyelitis thanks to vaccine campaigns.
- The final case of polio in India was reported six years ago in January 2017.
- To eradicate the polio virus, oral OPV vaccines are made available at a low cost.
- In the past 20 years, over 20 billion youngsters have received vaccinations.
- The goal of eradicating polio and making the globe polio-free is highlighted on World Polio Day.

Greetings! My name is [your name] and I am a student of class [Mention Your Class]. As we all know we have gathered here to observe the World Polio Day 2022. So, to honor this day I would like to present a world polio day speech!
On October 24, people around the world observe World Polio Day to raise awareness about the need to eradicate polio and to recognise the dedication of thousands of World Health Organization (WHO) and other organisations staff members. The event also honours the birth of American virologist and medical researcher Jonas Salk, who made one of the first effective poliomyelitis or polio vaccine discoveries.
The WHO has announced that “A healthier future for women and children” will be the focus of World Polio Day in 2022. According to the WHO, polio is a viral infection that primarily affects young children. Immunization can help prevent it but there is no known treatment for it. A youngster is virtually always protected for life by the polio vaccination after receiving it many times. Therefore, the approach to eradicating polio is to prevent infection by immunising every child up until transmission ceases and the globe is polio-free.
In the past, polio was a disease that caused sudden paralysis in most young children and was greatly feared around the world. The World Health Organization is a partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the largest private-public health partnership that has decreased polio by 99%. The only places where polio is still present today are in the poorest and most marginalized communities around the world, where it preys on the most defenseless kids. The Initiative’s purpose is to provide polio vaccine to every child and secure a polio-free planet for future generations.

Good morning members present in the house. Greetings, my name is (mention your name), a graduate-level student(replace it with your degree). Today is World Polio Day, and I’d like to honor this day by presenting a speech on World polio day.
World Polio Day is observed on 24th October to commemorate Jonas Salk’s birth anniversary. The inactivated (killed) polio vaccine (IPV), which was the first defence against the illness, was created under his leadership. Rotary International, an international service organisation that unites commercial, professional, and community leaders to serve others, improve honesty, and advance goodwill, peace, and understanding in the world, launched the day. Over the past three decades, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), a joint effort of the WHO and state governments, has been vigilant in keeping track of the illness.
Polio or poliomyelitis is described by the WHO as “a highly contagious viral disease, primarily affecting young children.” It is a neurological condition that can be fatal and is incapacitating. The poliovirus is the disease that causes polio, which can be fatal and cause disabilities.
- Transmission – The virus spreads mostly by the oral-faecal pathway and is passed from person to person (contaminated water or food). After growing in number in the intestines, the virus enters the neurological system where it can paralyse a person.
- Symptoms – Minor symptoms include fever, exhaustion, nausea, headaches, sore throats, coughs, neck and back stiffness, and discomfort in the arms and legs in some individuals. Very rarely, the infection results in a permanent loss of muscle function (paralysis).
- Vaccines – The only effective treatment for an illness is immunisation. Children are protected by the polio vaccine because it primes their bodies to resist the poliovirus. There are two immunizations that can shield against polio:
- Depending on the patient’s age, the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) is injected into the arm or leg. As part of the Universal Immunization Program, it is added as a second dosage in addition to the third DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus) shot (UIP).
- The oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) is administered orally at birth, followed by three primary doses at 6, 10, and 14 weeks, and one booster dose at 16-24 months of age.
The final case of wild poliovirus in the country was discovered on January 13, 2011. As a result, India was certified polio-free by the WHO in 2014. This accomplishment was made possible by the successful pulse polio campaign, in which all children received polio drops. To prevent the virus from entering India, the government has made Oral Polio Vaccination (OPV) necessary for those travelling between India and polio-affected countries like Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Syria, and Cameroon since March 2014.
