17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2023: The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (Overseas Indian Honour/Award), established by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs of the Government of India in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day), is the highest Indian award for Non-Resident Indians and Overseas Citizens of India, or an organisation or institution founded and run by Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin. The Indian President bestows the honour. The Government of India decided to only give the prize once every two years in 2016, which resulted in a doubling of the number of recipients each year to 30. 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2023

The Indian government has selected 27 Indians who currently reside abroad for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards (PBSA), honouring them for remarkable accomplishments both domestically and internationally. The accolade is given to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), or organisations and institutions founded and managed by them. It is the highest distinction given to Indians who reside outside of India.

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar served as the jury’s chairman, and Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar served as its vice-chair, in addition to other esteemed figures from other disciplines. President Droupadi Murmu will present the prizes to the deserving individuals during the 17th annual PBSA, which will take place from January 8–10 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

About 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award

As part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, the President awards the PBSA to non-resident Indians (NRIs), people of Indian origin (PIOs), or organisations founded and maintained by NRIs or PIOs in appreciation of their exceptional accomplishments in India and abroad. PBD is organised every two years in order to improve the connection between the Indian population living abroad and India and to help them rediscover their roots.
