Narendra Singh Tomar, Indian Agriculture Minister recently announced “Anocovax” which is considered to be the nation’s first indigenous COVID-19 vaccine for animals, produced by the ICAR-National Research Centre for Equines in Haryana. Anocovax is a SARS-CoV-2 Delta (COVID-19) vaccine for animals that is inhibited. Both the Delta and Omicron versions of SARS-CoV-2 are neutralised by the resistance generated by Anocovax. India’s First COVID-19 Vaccine for Animals – Know About ELISA Kit
Besides the vaccine, animal testing kits were also released. Antibody testing against SARS-CoV-2 in canines is made easier using the “CAN-CoV-2 ELISA kit,” a sensitive and specific nucleocapsid protein-based indirect ELISA kit. The use of laboratory animals is not required for antigen synthesis. The kit is made in India, and a patent application has been filed. According to the ICAR, there are no other comparable kits for detecting antibodies in dogs on the market.

India’s First COVID-19 Vaccine for Animals – 1st Animal COVID Case in India & Abroad
Firstly, talking about the cases of COVID-19 in animals in India it is to be noted that eight Asiatic lions in a zoo in Hyderabad acquired coronavirus in May 2021. They were having respiratory problems. In a research study titled “Surveillance and molecular characters of SARS-CoV-2 in non-human hosts in Gujarat,” the virus was identified in dogs, cows, and buffaloes in the State of Gujarat. COVID-19 cases in animals in foreign countries too came out in the picture when in February 2020, the first dog in Hong Kong tested positive for the virus. 8 of the gorilla species of apes at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park became the world’s first great apes to test positive for the COVID in January 2021. 3 snow leopards succumbed to COVID-19 virus in Nebraska in 2021. Even the leopards and 2 tigers related to the Sumatran species at the zoo were given treatment for the infectious virus. Fortunately, the tigers are absolutely recovered now.
