History of International Translation Day Quiz

International Translation Day is celebrated on September 30 every year. This day is celebrated to show pride in a profession that is becoming increasingly essential in an era of ongoing globalization. Simultaneously raising awareness that language plays an important role in development, ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in achieving quality education for all and preserving cultural heritage. The existence of translators has helped to understand different cultures and the works of authors around the world as well as establish exchanges and peace between nations. Around the world on this day, the feast of Saint Jerome is celebrated, he is the patron saint of translators. The International Federation of Translators (FIT), founded in 1953, has continuously promoted the idea of celebrating International Translation Day since its early days. The idea of an officially recognized International Translation Day was introduced by FIT in 1991 to show the solidarity of the worldwide translation community to promote the translation profession in different countries. Here in this article, we will discuss the history, activities, quizzes and theme of International Translation Day. The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 71/288 on 24 May 2017, declaring September 30 as International Translation Day to recognize the role linguists play in connecting countries. and promoting peace, understanding and development. September 30 was chosen to the point of being the feast day of Saint Jerome, who translated the Bible and is considered the patron saint of translators. Saint Jerome is a priest from northeastern Italy. He is known for translating most of the Bible into Latin from Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. He also translated portions of the Hebrew Gospels into Greek. He has Illyrian ancestry and his mother tongue is the Illyrian dialect. Jerome died near Bethlehem on September 30, 420. In 1991, the International Federation of Translators (FIT) came up with the idea to officially organize International Translation Day to recognize the work and importance of translators.
