National Startup Awards 2022 Winners List was revealed by the union government on Monday, January 16, in honour of National Startup Day (NSA 2022). In addition to honouring two incubators and an accelerator for their contributions to their respective fields, 43 businesses received awards. At a ceremony in New Delhi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal gave the awards to the chosen startups and praised their achievements.
Speaking to the crowd, the minister noted that “Startup India” has gained traction across the entire nation. He also emphasised that creative ideas and endeavours must be fostered to satisfy the ambitions of a youthful India. The NSA 2022 recognised and honoured companies and ecosystem enablers for their excellence. The awards are intended to recognise entrepreneurs that drive inclusive growth by upending conventional business models, establishing new markets, and developing workable solutions that have proven their “success and usefulness.”
2,667 entrepreneurs, incubators, and accelerators from 31 states and union territories submitted proposals for the third round of prizes (UTs). Seven special categories, 50 sub-sectors, and 17 sectors all received applications.
Fintech, health and wellness, food processing, travel, media, and entertainment were just a few of the areas. On the other hand, startups were also recognised in a variety of unique categories, such as those that were led by women, had a significant influence in rural areas, and excelled in manufacturing, among others.
As 18 startups from the state of Karnataka won awards, the state topped the charts. Delhi came in third with 4 winners, much behind second-place Maharashtra’s 9 winners. Three of the winning businesses came from Gujarat, while two came from Uttarakhand, which placed fifth overall. One winner each was claimed by Telangana, Odisha, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Assam. Emerging cities, Tier-2 and Tier-3 regions, as well as other smaller towns and cities, made up about 33% of the “unique startup” winners.

National Startup Awards 2022 Winners List: Category-wise
In the agricultural sector, Wolkus Technology Solutions (Fasal) and Natura Crop Care from Bengaluru were among the winners, while Testbook Edu Solutions and Trascender Services from Mumbai won the award for education and skill development.
In the energy category, Roorkee-based Indigenous Energy Storage Technologies received recognition, while Vadodara-based Infinita Biotech, a producer of enzymes, took first place. The winner in the transportation category was the electric vehicle company Revamp Moto from Nashik.
SaaS platform Algorithmic Biologics won the category for women-led startups, and Kamrup (Assam)-based Primary Healthtech won the “Special Category – Startups from North-East” award.
The winners in the incubator category were T-Hub in Telangana and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms in Bengaluru, while Cisco Launchpad took home the trophy in the accelerator division.
The NSA 2022 put a lot of emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and innovation. The winning incubator and accelerator will each earn INR 15 lakh, while the winning startups will receive INR 5 lakh apiece.Amitab Shrivastava, managing partner of July Ventures, together with Anup Jain, managing partner of Orios Venture Partners, renowned investor Sanjeev Bikhchandani, and three other managing partners of July Ventures—Gaurav Porwal, Nidhi Saraf, and Sarath Naru—judged the candidates.

The timing of the awards announcement is significant for the Indian startup scene. The global headwinds in 2022 primarily contributed to the beaten and bruised state of the Indian startup sector. Indian startup funding plummeted to $25 Bn in 2022 from a record $42 Bn raised in 2021. Only 21 firms became unicorns in 2022 compared to 42 unicorns created in 2021.
While the startup sector is going through a difficult time, the NSA 2022 has emerged as the ideal platform to support entrepreneurs and highlight their significance. It will emphasise the significance of startups and their real impact on the economy, and it probably will inspire a new generation of business owners.
