The Ministry of Women and Child Development is all set to celebrate the fifth Poshan Pakhwada from 20th March to 3rd April 2023. Poshan Pakhwada is an effort to spread awareness about nutrition and promote good eating habits. This Pakhwada will consist of various activities nationwide to encourage people to lead healthier lifestyles. The activities will include Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari. The Ministry plans to spread awareness about nutrition and its importance through Jan Andolan.

The Poshan Abhiyaan, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8th March 2018, has been significant in promoting public involvement and driving the conversation about nutrition to the fore. 5th Poshan Pakhwada Theme and its Significance
The Poshan Abhiyan, launched by the Indian government in 2018, is a multi-sectoral nutrition mission with the aim of improving nutritional outcomes in a holistic manner. The mission also aims to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition among children and emphasises on the Kuposhan-mukt Bharat.
The mission has several components, including the promotion of dietary diversification, improved access to nutrition-related services, and a focus on the convergence of various nutrition-related schemes. The mission also seeks to create a nutrition-sensitive ecosystem in the country by promoting behavioural change at the individual and community level. This includes initiatives such as the promotion of healthy eating habits, promotion of physical activity, and the implementation of nutrition-related interventions.
5th Poshan Pakhwada: Important Facts
Every year in March, Poshan Pakhwada is celebrated for fifteen days. Likewise, the whole country celebrates the month of September as Rashtriya Poshan Mah. In the past, the Poshan Mah and Pakhwada have been enthusiastically attended by all the States/UTs, frontline personnel, converging Ministries and the public. During the last Poshan Pakhwada 2022, nearly 2.96 crore activities took place all over India. This Poshan Pakhwada 2023 Theme is “Nutrition for All: Together Towards a Healthy India”. In addition, since 2023 is the International Year of Millets, the focus of Poshan Pakhwada will be to promote ‘Shree Anna’, the source of all grains, as a valuable resource to combat malnutrition.
5th Poshan Pakhwada 2023: Activities
The Ministry of Women & Child Development will serve as the main Ministry responsible for organising the activities during the Poshan Pakhwada. In each State/UT, the Department of Women & Child Development or Social Welfare Department will be the main department overseeing the Poshan Pakhwada. The activities during the Poshan Pakhwada will focus on several key themes, including but not limited to the following.
Promotion and popularisation of Shree Anna / Millets for nutritional wellbeing:
Increasing awareness and usage of Shree Anna / Millets to improve nutrition and overall wellbeing by organising initiatives to connect Millet-based foods with nutritional supplements, home visits, and diet consultation camps.
Celebration of Swasth Balak Spardha
Encourage and reward the ‘Swasth Balak’ or Healthy Child according to the standards set to create a competitive atmosphere that promotes good nutrition, health, and wellbeing.
Popularise Saksham Anganwadis
Promotional efforts will be undertaken to raise awareness and promote Saksham Anganwadis with improved infrastructures and amenities as places of better nutrition services and early childhood care and education.
