World Aids Day Theme 2022

History of World Aids Day
World AIDS Day was established in 1998 and commemorated on December 1 of that year. It was the first time a health day was ever observed internationally. It is a chance for people all around the world to unite in the struggle against the sickness, show their support for those who are HIV-positive, and pay tribute to those who have passed away as a result of it.
In August 1987, two public information managers with the World Health Organization’s Global Programme on AIDS in Geneva, Switzerland, James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, initially suggested the concept of World AIDS Day. Former San Francisco television broadcaster Bunn argued that December 1st is the ideal date for the day. Since it would be far enough after the US campaigns but before the Christmas holidays, he thought that western news media would raise the most awareness of World AIDS Day at that time.The first two years, children and young people were the focus of World AIDS Day. Although the subject was criticised at the time for ignoring the fact that HIV may affect people of all ages, it did contribute to lessening some of the stigma attached to the illness.
